What kind of Files are these? Legitimate or Junk?!
    « on: July 28, 2009, 01:06:39 AM »
    Hi Friends! ;D

I accidentally got a 'Sneak Peek' into the 'C:/Documents & Settings' folder of the my Windows account & it displayed 3 Weird looking files with 2 of these carrying .DAT as File extension.

Please have a look at the sequential screenshots & help me decipher the authenticity of these files. The two with .DAT file extension displays a 'Warning' message on double click & the 3rd one is a O Kb file that do not displays an error message but displays a list of probable programs that can be used to open that.

    Check out...!

Best to leave the Ntuser.dat files alone, they are an integral part of the system and can be found in each user account.

I have not found any information about the odd named zero byte file.  Is it protected by the system?

The Y9Y9 file is part of HP software/drivers:

I don know whether the 'Strange looking' 0Kb file is system protected or else, but its neither Hidden nor Read only!

I do have a HP 3-in-1 device(Printer,Scanner,Copier) & around half-a-dozen of Virtual printers that aid the conversion of any file format to .pdf

Screenshot is rather irrelevant...in this context!

Found some info - I'm with WyattSoft - it seems the file is created by HP drivers and can be deleted if you uninstall the HP software but then you won't be able to run your 3-in-1 so I suggest you just forget it.

        A bit of info here

They don't care!  They just write the code they are instructed to write, so they can get a paycheck.  Their supervisors are clueless.  It just has to function (sorta).
