http://www.110mb.com/ is a good example.
110mb.com seems like an odd case. They even say on their website that many free hosting services go out of business in a short time, yet they say they are different because two large companies are behind it, so they have adequate funding.
There's still something missing from their explanation of how they exist, IMO. They mention having a staff of technical experts to run their hosting service. So, why incur the costs of operating a business to provide free services? Are the two companies behind 100MB just in a philanthropic mode/mood or what? Will 100mb.com ultimately go out of business like other free services? Have they just continued to exist for a much longer time because of they are supported by the two companies behind them? I suspect so; this seems to only logical conclusion. If you look here,
http://www.110mb.com/plans.php, the picture becomes clear. For some reason, they are operting at a loss. No entrepreneurs in their right mind will do that forever.
So, my perspective is that if you have any business purpose whatsoever for your website, you probably ought to be willing to pay the small fee for a commercial hosting service. It's not expensive. Basic hosting services, which are quite adequate for any small business website, can cost only $4 or $5 per month. And, by doing so, you have greater assurance that your web hosting service will not be unexpectedly cutoff due to discontinued operations.
