110mb.com seems like an odd case.  They even say on their website that many free hosting services go out of business in a short time, yet they say they are different because two large companies are behind it, so they have adequate funding. 

There's still something missing from their explanation of how they exist, IMO.  They mention having a staff of technical experts to run their hosting service.  So, why incur the costs of operating a business to provide free services?  Are the two companies behind 100MB just in a philanthropic mode/mood or what?  Will 100mb.com ultimately go out of business like other free services?  Have they just continued to exist for a much longer time because of they are supported by the two companies behind them?  I suspect so; this seems to only logical conclusion.  If you look here, http://www.110mb.com/plans.php, the picture becomes clear.  For some reason, they are operting at a loss.  No entrepreneurs in their right mind will do that forever. 

So, my perspective is that if you have any business purpose whatsoever for your website, you probably ought to be willing to pay the small fee for a commercial hosting service.  It's not expensive.  Basic hosting services, which are quite adequate for any small business website, can cost only $4 or $5 per month.  And, by doing so, you have greater assurance that your web hosting service will not be unexpectedly cutoff due to discontinued operations.

110mb can operate because they also offer a payed service, which includes more space, more bandwidth and other features. Also, they have a lot of advertising on their site, e.g. their 404 and other error pages are laced with ads. The are affiliated with some Website template company which also displays examples of templates on error pages.

They must be feeling the brunt the economy just like everyone else, though.

While you can pay for hosting at $5/month, you can still get the above plans for free if you post a certain number of posts I think on their official forum in exchange for the free no ad hosting and the type of plan you want that they offer comes with its own requirements but I think it's reasonable and I assume the place where you doing the postings have the adverts to offset costs for the hoster

hey believe me its safe. also look at the comments on that site. Many people use x10hosting. Nothing gets downloaded. I have done tests on their site to make sure.

I did some looking, on the free side the largest file you can upload is 8Mb.  You can do some photos, maybe a resume.  I can't think of much it's useful with. 
Does anyone know what the actual bandwidth on the free side is?

Yes, but the problem is the site's that it links to. Anyway, why would they offer so much for nothing? They offer cPanel as a website control panel. cPanel is $425 per year for a license. You get POP email accounts for free - a POP mail server costs thousands of dollars, as well as the normal servers they need to host the sites. All of this, as well as a RED rating would turn me off it straight away, whether someone I know has used it or not.
