      hi everybod, i just joined yeay

    im having a bit of trouble, im using MSW XP and want to add another partition to my mard drive, i looked on the internet and 'help and support centre' i found this;

    diskpart/add\device\harddisk0 20

    my hard drive is called 'Hard drive' lol an im wanting to put a partition of 6144 MB

    i tried putting this into what i found as

    diskpart/add\device\Hard Disk 6144 but my console is saying 'diskpart was unable to process the parameters

    can anyone help please, thanks in advance

      P.S. i dont want to remove XP to do it if it is possible to do while running please

      Why not use a free tool such as gParted or Paragon's Free partition manager ? ?

      Make sure you backup any important data...even though they all claim to be able to do it without harming your Windows install doo-doo happens...

        i didnt know but if i can i would like to not download stuff, its another laptop that dont have the internet, so i would if possible like to do in the command console thing

          I did.
          Don't you have USB ports ? ?
          You can DLoad either on another machine and save them to a USB stick and then install them on the laptop that way...

            i dont wana use any other 3rd party programs, i just wana add a 6Gb partition to my drive using windows comand prompt

              i got a bit further now, i been asked to put either a primary, extended or logical partition, which is which- i want one that acts like my original C: where i can see it in My Computer and use it to store files

              You want the extended partition. Search disk partitions and find Wikipedia's explanation. Then you'll figure it out.
