Which Antivirus Program uses the least amount of my PC's resources?

You need to ask yourself the question how much protection do you want?

Avast has low resource requirement, latest version still compatible with Windows 98SE.  I was using it on a P3 with 640MB RAM.

        err, no.

Following that logic we could logically assume that the best AV would simply allocate all memory and then sit in a infinite loop.

I also run Avast on a Celeron machine with 256 MB RAM running Windows 98 se. It was about the only AV software I could find that is compatible with 98SE.  :)

          Does AVG use a lot?

I would try out various Antivirus programs and see which runs most smoothly on your computer.  :)

I prefer Avast for my own system, I can disable modules that I'm not running, then enable them later if I need them.

Yesterday only, I have installed & is using 'Comodo Internet Security'. I preferred to install ANTIVIRUS ONLY & kept all 'Bells & Whistles' away(like Hopsurf Toolbar..etc.)

Comodo Antivirus is proving too light on Resources(perhaps even better than to my previous choice of Avira Antivir!)

However, it would be unfair to bluntly equate its capability(Malware Removal) to Avira.

            AVIRA ANTIVIR is the BOSS!

Kaspersky is probably the best on system resources. It only uses about 3 executables I think...

do you actually "feel" how much resources an antivirus program actually uses on your computer if you don't have an old computer and your computer is not just struggling to work (in which case an upgrade may be worthwhile)?

AVG is a heavy user of computer resources and you have to use a version later than 7.5 as it and earlier are no longer supported with updates and virus definitions. The more recent the version the more blotted it has become. I am using the free "Avira" on a number of computers and find no issues with it. However i cannot comment on it's use of resources. truenorth
