what?  That is the whole point of a touch pad.  It replaces the whole ball that they had tried useing at first but it didnt work too well.  Try getting a usb mouse or what ever it can take.   ;)

No, unless you want to ruin your screen.  aka Useing forceing thinking it will work.  Unless its a newer model an has a touch screen I dont see were your able to use one.

I believe he was asking if he could use a pen on the touchpad.

Simple answer is No. Not unless the touchpad was designed to use a digital touchpen.

I'm not sure about it, but I believe you can only use your fingers on the touchpad because it senses electical impulses in your body - or something like that.

If you want, you can get a USB writing/drawing tablet.

I think you'd find an optical, wireless USB mouse quite a relief from using the touchpad.  I use one of these with my laptop:
          http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104073

I usually keep the touchpad disabled.  That way, I won't accidentally change something on screen by touching it.

          Oh please.

The touchpad is layered with sensors that detect pressure. It most certainly does not detect electrical impulses. The fact that the case is made of plastic would discount that theory.
Parts of the touchpad are designed to act as different parts of a mouse. The Right side of my touchpad acts like a mouse wheel if I run my finger up against it.

It doesn't detect pressure, at least mine doesn't.

I have a small heatsink sitting on my touchpad. As soon as I gently touch the tip of the heatsink, the mouse goes crazy.

So you have a touchpad that does not detect pressure? What touch pad is it? I never new about these. Why do you have a heatsink on a touchpad?

The thing reacts just by touching the side of the lump of metal. I don't think it's pressure....otherwise anything would move the mouse,

You learn something everyday :)  I just tried using a couple hard objects on my touchpad and they did not move the cursor. Only my finger moves it.

I know its Wikipedia, but it does provide a decent and accurate explanation of how they work, if you understand the terminology.

::) I think carbon lost it here.  I didnt think of that since it would probably scratch an mark it up.  I have those disabled an able to use mine fine, I just find that too be more trouble have programs asigned depending where you hit it.

The new Mac book allows two fingered control for scrolling which is handy.

I believe the eePC has multi-touch too, but it's nowhere near as advanced as what Apple's got.

Maybe on the later models, but I know for sure it doesn't on the 4G and 8G models.

You'd be surprised. My temperatures went from 75*C before the additional cooling to 70*C.   :P
