Force installation of unsigned activex controls in Vista
    « on: August 04, 2009, 09:04:10 AM »
As you know, in Vista it is (nearly) impossible to install an unsigned activex control. However, I have a client who absolutely needs to install a particular acivex control (made by someone who she knows and trusts) that is unsigned.

Does anyone know the procedure to force Vista to install unsigned active x controls? I know it exists, I just can't find it anywhere on the net. Google has failed me and I'm scared and alone...  :-\

      Update:

I've attempted to install the control under the local admin account, allowed unsigned activex controls to be installed in IE7, and added the site to my trusted sites list. it seems it is being blocked by vista itself.

There are no GPO policies to worry about and no domain admins as they are in a workgroup.

      Any ideas?

Thanks for the reply, but I'm looking to install an unsigned ActiveX control, not an unsigned driver. Unless you think this would help with ActiveX also?

I used to use Ready Driver Plus, but I don't know the answer regarding ActiveX.
Install/uninstall takes just few seconds, plus restarting computer. Worth to try.

I've never had any problems registering my activeX controls... they aren't signed..

I just had to start command prompt as an Admin and run regsvr32 on the OCX files.

I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

I'm not so sure this is an activex issue anymore...the client is trying to install a plugin to view reports. It seems like the activex control installs fine, however I can't find it in the list of IE add-ons to see if it's enabled or disabled.

          any new insights?
