User name and password cached?
« on: May 12, 2004, 10:07:44 AM »
Some web sites require authentication for accessing an area. Internet Explorer provides the login box for the user name and password. Once the user is authenticated they will remain authenticated as long as a browser window is open. The user has an option to check the check box to save their password.
-Is the password cached someplace for the session or is it only saved when the user checks the save password?
-Can anyone tell me where the password is located or how authentication is retained during the session?

a)Its most likely in the Temp folder, but i am not sure. If the site uses Java script or something, then it usualy remains until you close your browser.
b)If you are using certificates (something special, and im not sure how to actualy use them. Those are mostly used for Bank accounts and stuff with higher security) then it will be under Tools -> Internet Options - > Certificates. Otherways, its under Tools -> Internet Options -> General. If you are searching for the .doc or .whatever.cfg file (not sure what IE is using), i cant help you with that, my computer knowledge is still pretty low.

I also admit to doing it a few times; I believe our friend homer had to advise me to stop several times, lol.
