need some help please re: monitor and graphics card

Dear Members,
My problem is my graphics card isnt recognised in device manager and neither is my monitor.
If i could locate the problem for monitor i could install the driver from the cd.
I cant see my graphics card either...and have no idea what it is...other than it was an added to my HP package when i bought it and no cd came with it,
I am using XP pro.
Pentium 4
1 gig ram
160 g hard drive.
Any help would be appreciated,

What are you trying to do?

Do you see any errors (like question marks, exclamation points, or red X's) in device manager?

Open up your computer and see if you can find the Video Card. Also, see on the box that you got your HP computer that if it says anything about Video Cards or graphics...

what i an trying to do is find a monotir on my device manager...mine is a benq and normally even if not loaded ..a plug and play is stated.
BUT no monitor is located,
my graphics card i cant read connected and pic is a difficult one for me to remove to check.
Hp have a built in pain factor,
I am sure the answers  simple ,,but i simply cant findi it.
You think perhaps if i totally disconnected monitor   turn power back on cpu it would be located as new hardware???

So in device manager you have flags popping up relating to video hardware?

have ? beside pci devices but no mon itor is shown no flags

It's really rare to have your monitor show up, unless it requires a specific driver, it doesn't sound like yours does.  The video card usually will show up, what is your manufacturer and model?

my monitor is a Benq model fp9iv+..i have the disc for it so can istall the driver ...but without  monitor ecognised I cant update driver..what do you suggest.
Was thinhking of total reinstall of monitor and hopeing it will open new hardware wizard.
 ( The model is a 19 inch flat screen lcd)
and has special drivers  its high end monitor

Every windows PC I've ever owned after Windows 3.1 has displayed a monitor in device manager.
the only prerequisite is that the display driver support DDC...

however the basic VGA driver does not support this.


Ignore the monitor drivers. they do nothing. what you need is the graphics card drivers. you're running with the default, basic drivers right now.

Monitor drivers are nowhere near as important as a graphics driver.

That's what I thought, that's also my experience.  I think the video card is the biggest thing to look at first.

Thanks for helping...how do you suggest i find what independant graphics card i have...never had the cd supplied..so is there a way I can hever my computer scaned to tell me what kind i have..then i can try and locate driver online??

Have cancer so costs preclude me buying anything,,,its 49 US and i have nothing on my card...medical costs to high.
 This is driving me nuts.
