    can't go into standby mode
    « on: August 10, 2009, 07:11:35 AM »
Would like to execute standby mode, instead of shutting down everytime.  This option worked until last week.  Only thing I did was update drivers with Driver Detective. I checked the Power option, and "always on" is checked.  Task manager doesn't indicate anything running after all programs are closed, except system Idle.  I checked FAQ's first and researched the other sites.  I received one suggestions   that I can't use Standby because I have a desktop.  That doesn't make sense as itwas working earlier.  Any suggestions?

Can you roll back the drivers that DT updated?

I probably could figure that out, but this problem existed before I updated the drivers.  I just mentioned it as that was the only update done on the computer recently.

If this is desktop, don't use any power saving features. They rarely work as designed.

So, don't try to save power?  I think I'd always test a system to see whether it's power saving features worked and, if they do, I'd use them.

That doesn't make sense as it was working earlier.
Do you have a Restore point prior to when this started happening?

Not, if it causes problem to my computer.

I don't have a restore point as I'm not sure the exact day it started happening.  I'll ask another question, does it harm the  computer if it's left on all day?

No, but I wouldn't leave it on overnight.  BTW, do you have a UPS?  They're a very good thing to have to protect your computer against power fluctuations?

No, I don't have a UPS, will consider getting one though.  I'll just settle to leave the computer on all day.  I always shut it down at night anyway.  I just couldn't figure out why it won't respond to the power down setting.  Thank you for your help.
