Theres a few programs that just can't connect to the internet on my Sony Vaio laptop running Vista

For example: 'Free Download Manager', 'MyHeritage family tree builder', certain youtube video downloaders all timeout or can't connect in some other way

However my Kapersky program can download updates, i can connect to MSN messenger, my widget works, in all honesty most things do connect to the internet but the 2 programs I want to use the most are listed above and I really need to get this problem fixed!

-I've tried putting FDM and Myheritage on the trusted applications list in Kapersky, and have tried pausing protection from Kapersky as well so unless I'm overlooking something there I don't think its Kapersky but I could be wrong

Temporarily disable the firewall and see if that works...
