Hard Drive Size Limitation

Hi there all,

I have a question regarding hard drive size limitation... I recently purchased a modded xbox which when I was doing a bit of a cleanup (dusty inside) I noticed that it had 250gb hard drive the brand and type is Seagate IDE. The hard drive will only allow me to see or use 120gb of space.

I have tried formatting the hard drive on my mac which enables me to format it in MS-DOS file system or MAC OS Extended or Extended (Journaled). The Disk Utility I have used on my mac will only see 120gb and nothing more, so 120gb is all that I can format and use. I have also tried using a AID Auto Installer for XBOX which has partitioning and formatting software called XB Partitioner. This also only allows me to see 120gb and not the full 250gb hard drive. I don't think that it's a bios issue as I have previously installed 250gb, 500gb & 1TB Hard Drives in my xbox's and they work fine and my Mac can definitely see the larger 500gb that it already has installed.

I hope someone is able to tell me what I could try to get this hard drive to read the full disc space.

use a partitioning tool and repartition

Yep. I used XB Partitioner and no luck. Also the Mac Disk Utility enables me to setup partitions also and was unable to see past the 120gb.

try deleteing all partitions and create one 250 gb partition
if that doesnt work the drive must be bad

I will take it to work and boot it up on a windows xp machine see if it helps.

I would say bye bye old HDD. Does'nt want to interface with any type program. Of course, always check the jumper. Try this HDD read/write link. It also has very good SMART testing, sector by sector scanning and will check media integrity.

Jumper is fine and set to cable select as that is what's required on my xbox. Jumper was set to master when formatting on my mac and SMART was verified also, so I'm really unsure why it won't show the full volume. What was that link you referred to?

When I go to format the drive on my mac it doesn't recognize any other partitions other than the 120gb so I can't see how it was partitioned earlier to a smaller size? Model number via samsung verified as being a 250gb hard drive also.

Sorry about that? It didn't post. I have a couple that may help you. I can tell you that Xbox chose to use the Seagte HDD with out Seagate having the ability to create or support the Xbox HDD. Is that how ya do it or what. lol

Isn't xboxes only to use with 120Gb memory? It's probably someone who's set the partition to 120 with a reason, but if you are to use it in a computer, you should probably be able to partition 250Gb
