Laptop wireless connection speed?
« on: September 06, 2009, 09:21:47 AM »
I have sky broadband router. One PC connected via ethernet cable, 100.00 Mbps speed.
The problem is when I connect my laptop with wireless connection I only get between 12.00-54.00 Mbps speed. When I connect my laptop using the ethernet I get 100.00 Mbps speed.

The question is should I be able to get full speed of 100.00 Mbps when connected using wireless??

Both ends of your wireless link need to use the same wireless standard to communicate.  You are limited by the standards common to both the laptop and router.

Refer to the product specifications your hardware has been designed to support.  Frequently they're designed to support multiple standards.

The maximum theoretical throughput for the IEEE 802.11g standard is 54.0 Mbps.

Other standards you might see are 802.11a, 802.11b, and the draft for 802.11n.
