Are you able to boot into safe mode or Last known good configuration?

Exactly how far does the system boot? You said it's okay until Windows starts, but the screen you describe sounds like it isn't even making it to Windows. Do you actually see the Windows desktop start to load? Please be specific.

I boot the computer into safe mode and last known system configuration, but it still the same, black screen with cursor only. the I still can go into bios, the black screen with cursor only appear after windows xp start up (windows XP logo with loading bar).

Do you have your XP CD ? ?
If so boot to it and select the first R option...this will take you to the recovery console...
After it finishes loading at the command prompt type in fixboot and hit Enter...
          Remove the CD and re-boot.
If the above does not work repeat the process except at the prompt type in fixmbr and hit Enter...
Again remove the CD and re-boot.
          Good Luck.

Go back to the recovery console and run chkdsk /r - it will take a while to finish - let it run its course. If that doesn't do it then we'll need to do a repair installation (we'll walk you through it if we need to do it).

              So chkdsk /r ran in 10 minutes ? ?

Takes about 45 minutes on mine...

yeah it just take a short time, partition C is actually set only 12 GB, my friend suggest it, i don't know it's a good idea or not but he did it. my hard disk was set to 3 partition, first partition which contain windows only 12 GB, and the rest divided into 2 partition.
Now what should I do? ???

Repair install. Boot to the XP CD and this time choose the SECOND repair option, allowing XP to install on top of itself.

I boot with windows cd, there are 3 options:
                  *Set up windows xp
                  *repair using recovery console
                  *quit set up

so I should choose "set up windows XP" right?
