if you think calling somebody old is not insulting
A lot depends on the culture, what you see in the mirror, and how you feel.
I'm pushing fifty. I don't like to think of myself as old, but there it is...
One of my favorite dialogues is from the old American television series, "Kung Fu."
The young Caine, new to the Shaolin temple of China's Hunan province, is surprised to find that old blind Master Po can perceive so much of the world around him. It is the same exchange which gets the character of Caine his nickname of "Grasshopper."
As part of proving his point, the old master blocks or deflects all of Caine's clumsy attempts to strike Po with a broom handle.
Then, Master Po asks Caine, "Do you hear the grasshopper which is at your feet?"
Caine looks down, surprised to see there is indeed a grasshopper before him. He did not know, but the blind master knew.
Caine asks, "Old man, how is it you can do these things?"
Po replies, "Young man, how is it you cannot?"
My long-winded point is that I didn't understand for many years that Caine's calling the master, "old man" was a term of respect in that culture.
Now, of course, avatars are meant to represent each of us in one way or another -- even if it is something we find personally amusing.
Ivy has used a long series of avatars which are more or less physical representations of her. I believe the idea is to partly reveal herself to us, but in such a way that we might pass her on the street and have that moment of wonder...was that Ivy?
Yet, you ask about the "odd" avatar.
I know you are new to the forum, but some observation over time might serve you well.
Finally, how does anyone's post count get as high as it is?
