    Hi,
Here are the details for computer 1:

there are about 30+ documents on the desktop. However, the only ones I can open are non-microsoft. I did a online virus scan with Trend Micro, but although it picked up 40 cookies to be removed, the files still cannot be opened anywhere on the system. Everything else seems to be working normally.

    System information:
    Acer aspire 5315
    win xp sp 3
    AV: ESET Free trial (outdated)

    Computer 2:
    System Info:
    Compaq V5000
    win xp sp 3

On this system, the ability to record sound has stopped working and an error 800405(?) is announced. I have tried everything I can think of including a system restore to an earlier time and it didn't help. The mircophone is new and works on computer 1. I have uninstalled the programs I thought may have caused the problem.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks

      Hi Thanks,

I am in the process of working through the steps mentioned for Computer 1.

However, I don't think there is a virus on computer 2, the non functioning recorder, so I'm also looking for help on that issue if possible.

      Thanks again.

        Hi,

        Thanks for responding.

Unfortunately, the slider is already at the top and selected. In fact all the sliders are at maximum and active.

I forgot to mention that I did a hardware test and was provided with the following:

"Error during DirectPlay Voice setup error 80004005"

and then I was given this message:

"Cannot execute dpvsetup.exe use ad/remove programs to install"

        Thanks.

        Ukpt32,

Since you have already started answering things about computer 2 on this thread can you please start a new thread about computer 1.  This will help to cut down on confusion as to what computer people are giving you advice on.
        You can't fix Stupid!!!

          Hi Thanks for suggesting that.

I will start a new thread for Computer1 now. I have just returned from a business trip and couldn't get much further on either system - hence the delay.

          Thanks
