Did you mean new only? If you want cheap, buying reconditioned used laptops with a warranty is the way to go. (My Opinion.)
Both Dell and HP reconditioned laptops are being sold. Look for a good warranty.
Personally, I have have good results with two used IBM laptops. But at the time they were not cheap. Now the price of used laptops has come down a lot.
Somewhere I saw an Apple G3 notebook for about $160. Small screen, but a great value!
And there is the new "
netbooks". I do not have any thoughts on this. Below is a blurp about a very new netbook for about $800.
