Laptop/ monitor/ TV confusion
« on: September 07, 2009, 08:12:36 PM »
I did not see an answer to this specific question and not sure if it is in a good spot or not but here it goes. I am in the market for a new laptop as mine is falling apart. I have a new 27" computer monitor and a Verizon "box" to hook up to a TV to watch. I would like to hook up the monitor so I can watch TV (through the laptop if needed and through the box?) on it as well as hook up the laptop when at home to use as a monitor. Is there a laptop feature that can do this with or do I need a special tuner or other hardware to be able to do what I want? The guy at the computer store had no clue. I would love any help and I am not computer savvy at all. :)

Not so sure what smeezekitty has said is absolutely true. You can (with a high speed connection on the computer) receive many TV channels (provided as is often the case you download the stations particular software that enables access to their signal). Now my uncertainty is if you can then watch (it will be streaming) it on a connected "monitor" to the laptop. I am however doing exactly this with a Dell XPS WHL to an HDMI TV set (not a monitor) with a DVI to HDMI cable connection. So i don't see why it should not work with a monitor as well depending on the cable connections available.truenorth

We really need to know more about what the outputs are on the Verizon box and what inputs are on the monitor.  The owners manual on the monitor should detail what inputs it can use.
