Computer start up with black screen with white flashing line

When I power up the computer, the intel screen comes up and quickly goes away and then a black screen with a flashing white line comes up and I can't do anything. My husband told me to eject the CD drawer and close it and well the computer started up perfectly! What can I do to fix this? I am replacing the hard drive with a larger one today.

Was there a cd in the drive when you cycled it?

No. The top disk drawer was stuck and i fixed that. But i was opening and shutting the one below that. Now everytime i cut on the computer i have to open and shut the cd burner drawer.

Odd. Anyway, look in the bios and see if the hd is at the top of the boot order. If not, move it there. You can always put the cd back on top if and when you need to boot to a cd.

Disconnect the power cable from the top disk drawer...with all power disconnected of course.
Plug in the PC and re-boot.
