Author Topic: Help...I can't get on the internet. (Read 7591 times)

I've really messed up this time. I couldn't get any videos to run smoothly so I started trying all kinds of things to fix that and now I can't get on the internet.

I have a router and 2 laptops in the house are working fine. My Local Area Connection is saying I'm connected but sent packets say 43 and recieved packets say 0.

So far I've...

changed things on registry editor (1st I backed up original registry but now when I try to get it back, a message pops up saying error, can't be accessed.)
I unplugged cable modem and router and plugged them back in.
uninstalled adobe flash player and reinstalled it.
gone to computer management and disabled messenger and telephony.

Please help me get back online.

I was never able to fix the video problem.
I have 132MB RAM.
I don't have hardly any fragmented files, doesn't need defrag.

I'm afraid I messed up my registry since I'm not able to restore it back to original settings. I must have done something wrong when I tried to back it up. Could this be it?

Go to start-all programs-accessories-system tools and click system restore.

When I get to system tools I have nothing that says system restore. I have backup, character map, disk cleanup, disk defragmenter, getting started, scheduled tasks, and system information.

I thought Windows 2000 had system restore, but just found out it doesnt. Havent used 2000 in a while. Anyway, go to start-run-and type in cmd. Then the command prompt comes up. Type in ipconfig. Please post the results

go to your control panel and double click network connections. right click on your internet connection and hit repair. This will repair your internet connection, since the IP is at 0.0.0.0 Hope that Helps!

try right clicking status instead, hit the support tad, and click repair. does it show that ?

It says

The following error occurred when renewing adapter Local Area Connection: An internal error occurred. Disconnect and reconnect the network interface or reboot the machine.

I restarted the computer and the same thing happened.

OK, try going back to cmd one more time, and type ipconfig /release
then type ipconfig /renew

sorry i should've specified after i tried to release and got that message, i did try to renew again and it said the same message as before.

Is my IP address for this laptop the same as my pc since i'm using a router? If so is there anyway to manually put in the address on my pc?

Your ip is set at 0.0.0.0 according to the ipconfig test, so try to go to Control Panel >> Network Connections >> Local Area Connection >> Properties >> TCP/IP >> Properties
