    Wondering Fan Quite App?
    « on: September 05, 2009, 07:34:58 AM »
I know that there is hardware to make a fan quite in a tower.  But I have a laptop an need to silence my cpu in it, there isnt anything wrong with it just fairly loud.  Wondered if say like speedfan couldnt do that or anything?
Windows 7 RC Tester.  Working on it.  Your monitor says etchasketch on the side!

Speedfan can do it and is the best app I've tried to control fans.
Bear in mind a few things - it can't control all fans, you can cause heat issues by lowering fan speeds, and it does sometimes require a fair bit of work to get Speedfan working right.
    Hope this helps.

If it's a laptop and you start throttleing down your fan speeds it's not going to run very long without overheating and shutting down...

To quiet a fan, you can clean it.  If it's dusty, it will be noisier and less effective.  If the bearing is going, you can lubricate it, but it's best to replace it.
If neither of those apply, the only way to get a quieter fan is to replace it.  You can't replace a laptop's fan with a quieter model though, so I think you'll just have to live with it.
