something is shutting down my firewall
« on: April 01, 2004, 06:38:51 PM »
I have scanned for viruses everyday for a month and I don't have one, but every single day somehow my autofile virus scan and firewall get shut down.  I don't know what to do.  I turn it back on a couple times each day.  Can anyone help me?

Have you tried looking for dodgy stuff on your comp with Spybot and AdAaware?  This is the next step. Get them them free off the net and run them and see what comes up?

Hit the Windows key + F simultaneously to open the find files dialog. You'll want to search for files or folders named *.bat, containing text net stop. Make sure you're searching all files and folders. By default, Windows XP doesn't search all areas. You have to tell it to in the search dialog.

ummmm  do you have aol by a chance?   Every time i sign off aol, and go into my network settings, aol "unchecks" my firewall.
If you have aol,  check your internet firewall before signing on, then after you sign off.  Been noticing it alot here lately.

so it automatically does it or if u enter a program it shuts it off...

         try this
    1. turn your firewall on and don't allow exspectatons and then leave your computer for about 5-24hours.

if it automatically turns off then you might have a virus.
ask a professional for help on removing the virus.

    2. if it does not turn off by its own then you must be getting on a unsafe program.

ask a professional for help on this.
