Computer stuck at boot up

Last night, my computer was in standby mode (Normally is). I move the mouse to get out of it. The computer works for a second, and then suddenly freezes (except for the mouse)

Ctrl Alt Delete didn't work, so I had to boot my computer from the power button unfortunately

Now when I turned it back on, it gets stuck at the HP Invent screen. I tried booting it by tapping F8 repeatedly for safe mode but nothing happens.

On the screen it allows for 4 options

1- Escape- Boot Menu
2- F9- Diagnostics
3- F10- Set Up
4- F11- System Recovery


Only Escape and F10 work. A text would come on saying Entering boot menu, or entering set up, but nothing at all happens

I unplugged my USB devices (printer, wireless usb, etc.) No good


I do notice that if I hold a keyboard key down (say the letter J), I would hear some kind of clicking noise out of the computer tower. Kind of odd, but don't think this has to do anything with it




Did a virus cause this possibly? Anyone know how to repair this if possible? Good thing my PC is still under warranty, nontheless I prefer to fix it myself if it's simple

Ehh if I could log on it would be better but I'll give some of my best guesses

Intel Pentium Dual-Core
HP Vista 64-bit
500 Gig HD
4.00 Gig Ram

I would download a hard drive diag and see if you have bad sectors on the HD. We run into alot of problems at work with people who's hard drives work for partly. They might load the os, but crash upon certain files being used or opened.

From what i gather it seems like ...nyyanksrdbest...isn't able to boot into vista at all, hence scanning would be a lil tricky.

Corrupt disk sectors are a possibility, and normally if its fixeable windows check disk utility should be able to handle it. If the disk is failing to the point that you can't boot at all, it could be a dying hard disk (hence the freezing symptoms). But to double check, you could hook your HDD to a different computer as a slave, and try checking disk.

The HDD diagnostic tools from the HDD manuf. do not need an operating system to be ran...

true. they can be run from the bios too as i recall. though it seems like his bios screen freezes and he isn't able to access his bios properly.
