    XP Freezes When Using Firefox
    « on: September 19, 2009, 12:52:21 PM »
Hi, I hope someone can help me with this...

For a few days now, my computer has been crashing everytime I go online. I usually use Firefox 3.5.1 and I sometimes use IE8 (like right now). It seems like when I go to certain pages (on Firefox) for more than 10 minutes, my browser freezes, then my computer freezes.

I wait about 5-10 minutes, but my computer would have an empty browser page up and the mouse is frozen so then I would have to restart the computer manually to get it going again. Is this browser related or computer related? I did download Threatfire sometime last week...could this be part of the problem?

I'm due for an memory upgrade because my computer has 512MB of RAM...would that be the case?

    Helpful specs:
    * I use Firefox 3.5.1 and IE8
    * Firefox does have 2 addons on it - FoxyTunes, Surf Canyon
    * I have Windows XP Home SP3 and I've had this desktop for 3 years
    * I do use an anitvirus app - The Shield Deluxe and I use Threatfire which is like an antivirus supplement

    Thanks for your help.

Have you scanned your system with your AV and with either MalwareBytes or Super Antispyware?

      Hi bobgar and allan,

Yes, I am updated to the latest Firefox  - my mistake.

Also, I ran my AV and two things showed up - one was name "Cookie.Monster" and another was "cookie.ad"- something. Both were deleted. It seems like everything is ok...but I'll still go through the malware removal process just to be sure.

Oh btw, I've used The Shield Deluxe for about a year now. I've had Norton, McAfee and TrendMicro within the past few years and had problems. But so far TSD been good.

Thanks for the help! I'll post what happens after the malware removal.

Travel to crucial.com and run the online scanner...this will tell you exactly which RAM you can use.

I'm not sure about now, but ThreatFire had a history of not playing well along with Firefox.
Try to uninstall it and see, if it helps.
