Prince of Persia running weirdly
« on: June 11, 2005, 07:07:26 PM »
I've played and finished the first Prince of Persia (POP), Sands of Time, and it ran smoothy and quickly.  However, now the newest one, Warrior Within isn't running as fast.  When there are too many obstacles or guards the game slows down.  It's frozen for a split second before.  Is it my PC doing this?  Or is the game doing this on purpose to make it harder? (I doubt it, but you never know).  Thanks for your help.

The game requirements:

-Windows 98 or better
-Direct X 9 or higher
-128MB system memory or higher
-CPU frequency (1000Mhz)
-64MB video card memory
-Pixel shader 1.1

My PC:

-Windows XP Pro
-Direct X 9.0b
-896MB system memory
-CPU frequency 851Mhz
-NVIDIA GeForceFX (5200)  128MB memory
-Pixel shader  (don't know which version... just says accepted)

The only thing that doesnt meet the requirements is the CPU frequency.  But I have an INTEL Pentium(R) III... which I've heard is supposed to be better than most. I'm really not sure though. Could that be the problem?

Thanks

That could very well be the problem. What you have copied are most likely the minimum specifications. Take a look at the recommended specifications.

Not only the frequency, but also the Direct X could be updated... 9.0c recetnly came out... Update eventually? (Might be more stable) However, we can't go on a guess that the Pentium can match or beat the requirements just becuase of its name...

Thank you very much, I'm going to try update Direct X.  Is there a way I can fix the frequency of the pc? Or would I need a whole new system?

Before running the game it will help if you shut down all other programs and set any game video options down as low as you can accept.

You would most likely need to aquire one or more new components.

Tweak around with the settings until you get it just right..
Try turning off special options like pixel shading and bump mapping.. Too bad you do not have an ATI card, they have software that come with the newer cards and you can tweak it and overclock easily on it.
