    Acronis True Image
    « on: September 24, 2009, 09:40:34 AM »
Got the chance to get ATI Home 2009 for £10 which seems a pretty good buy (ok it's not the latest but as long it can do the basics that's all l need).
Unless you actually have the software, can't seem to find out too much info as to how to actually use it (that's probably me just being dumb!) Any sites out there that explain how to use it in the simplest of terms.
From what l can gather, l will first need to create a "bootable" rescue disk
and then an image copy of my complete disk?
What type of media is used for both of these (cd, dvd, or both)?
    Sorry, dumb questions l know.
Think l'll go for it though!
    Regards

It's one of the best apps out there for imaging...
    Create the bootable CD first.
Then when you create your first image it needs to be saved to another drive/partition as it will not create an image to the drive it's creating.
After the image is successfully created you want to use the Tools bar to Verify the image...if it checks out then simply burn it to CD/DVD's.

A final question (maybe dumb) before l get my mitts on this package.
Hyperthetically then, l've created my bootable cd and have an image file backup of the complete system on other dvd disks.
My hard drive then crashes and everthing is wiped out. Let's say l don't have the original ATI disks to hand just these bootable and image disks.
Is that all l will need to restore the complete system back to how it was?
        Thanks

        Yes.
And it's much faster than a re-install of all your apps and the OS...

          Thanks Patio.
Hey, it arrived shortly after my last post so l can now have a mess around for real.
Sounds just the biz. My problem is that l started of with windows '98, bought just the XP upgrade disk which started me off with SP1 and then received all upgrades up to SP3 online.
Rebuilding the system from scratch is a headache so this sounds great!
          Thanks again for your help.
