dont know how to fix this computer
    « on: October 05, 2009, 01:53:45 PM »
i got another computer its a compaq and the problem is that when i turn it on i hear a loud noise (i think its the fan) but the major thing is that the monitor stays on standby and i've tried other monitors and they do the same thing, i think it cant be fixed unless i have to replace something. i would appreciate if it can be fixed, i dont want to throw a computer away

    Not enough information.
It's like asking:  "I have a car, it's a Toyota, and it won't start.  Please help me".
That's okay if you have it towed into the repair shop.
There is no way to tow the Compaq to the ComputerHope repair shop.

Start by reading all of this:  http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,33328.0.html
Especially: •You cannot give too much information. about the system. Withholding information seldom solves a problem quickly, if at all. Please don't expect us to drag information out of YOU to solve YOUR problem.

Basically... pull out all the cables and cards and put everything back in, making sure it's all connected right.

You said it was a Compaq.  I asked you for the Compaq model number.
What you have provided is not a Compaq Model number.
As far as I can tell, that's a power supply model number.
I think you should do what you suggested originally, i.e. throw the computer away.

I suspect this poster is Troll, do not respond.

He's probably new to being inside a computer. the power supply specs on the side are usually the first thing ya see.
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

if it seems like its powering up(hard drive light is flickering then stopping) try opening it up and reseating the video card(it's the one that the monitor cord connects to)
