Curser sticks

Can anyone help, I am at my wits end with my PC.
When clicking on an icon...the curser just sits there and after 30 sec's the page pops up....if I click on the line on the right hand side of the screen to scroll down ...it just freezes then after 10 sec desides to jump to where it should be...have just had my pc cleaned and it WAS running great....I have broadband and XP....please help

scan for trojans /worms........if it a rollerball mouse clean it ??plastic cover under it ......clean the rollers and replace.....it....also you can adjust the speed of the mouse
