Do you have Multiple monitors on your PC?
« on: October 13, 2009, 09:55:54 AM »
I am wondering if you have a dual monitor setup. I guess most of you will say "No" like me but I will change my computer (or at least the setup) by 2010 to support dual monitor, then get two 17" or 19" LCDs.
Answer these:
1. Do you have Multiple monitors on your PC? (Answer in poll)
These are optional (Answer by posting below):
2. What card do you have in your primary PC?
3. Are you happy with your setup.

I'll start with myself.
1. No, I don't
2. Intergrated GMA3100
3. No, the setup limits productivity
I will change my setup

Can you elaborate, Carbon?  Does one computer use one monitor and the other computer use two?  Got a KVM switch?

1. I have two monitors on my aging desktop system.
2. nVidia FX 5500, AGP, 256MB
3. Yep, I like dual monitors. For a long time, I used two 17" monitors. Now, it's one 17" CRT and one 19" LCD. Using two of the same size monitor is probably the best way to do duals but this setup also works OK.

1. No, I don't
2. S3 ViRGE 2MB
3. Yes and No, I'm happy with my 17" CRT monitor but my card performance is a bit lacking so I'm gonna try to upgrade it.

No, that's no fun.  Why can't you give us some details on your setup?

I attached a picture of my current setup at this very moment.

I usually have a dual desktop setup with the laptop on the right but the laptop on the left is currently connected to the external monitor.
Looks messy, but it totally isn't.

Where's the option for eight monitors?
I've got a similar setup to Carbon's. Two computers, three monitors. One my IT/internet computer, a 24" Dell LCD, on my scada/development computer, 2x 22" NEC LCDs. But I've also got a vga cable going to the dell lcd from my development computer so I can have three monitors if I need it temporarily.
And behind me, on the process monitoring system, of course I have eight monitors. But I don't use that one a whole lot. It's sort of shared between three developers.

Michael, your situation seems different from Carbon's.  He has an extra monitor that he uses interchangeably on two different computers, as desired.  So, he would not have more than dual monitors; he does not the capability to have 3 monitors on one computer, as you seem to have.  Am I right?

Correct.

Basically, my setup allows me to extend my desktop or enlarge my display (so I don't have to stare at the small, HP Mini screen).

There is now a option for 7 or more monitors.

Hmmm Once I had my TV hooked up to my laptop to watch DVD's and , of course, used my laptop screen to do PC stuff. So i did use the dual monitor function at one time. It was cool and worked very well on my HP Pavillion with Nvidia.

Come to think of it at times I also used both screens just for the PC, One for playing online poker and the otehr for surfing or writing e-mails. Comes in very handy.

The other question neelchauhan should have asked is, "If you're not using multiple monitors now, have you ever used multiple monitors?  It would make responses such as those quoted above more meaningful on point #3.

Your setup is very easy to get. I tried it with a laptop and a monitor. I want to do it on a desktop with a nVidia or ATI graphics card because of two outputs & better video editing.

My card is dual-headed but my only other monitor is an old CRT that maxes out at 800x600... and I can't fit them on my desk anyway.

I have used multiple monitors but it was a temporary thing, just to see if I could... I think I did it with my Radeon 7000, which was Dual-headed.
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.
