    Video Card
    « on: October 19, 2009, 08:04:56 PM »
    Hello everyone,

I recently was having problems with my monitor, when I turned on the computer, I got a lot of distortion. I later found out that it must be a bad video card. I have a NVIDIA GEFORCE 7800 GTX KO 256 MB PCIE video card. I would very much appreciate any input on what type of Video Card I should get. I do play video games: Sims 3. If you need any additional information about the computer please let me know.

    Thank you for help.  ;D

Well I personally have 8600gt which is a low profile but powerful enough to play on high settings many games, but if you want you can actually get a full size 9600gt which should run all your games extremely well enough.
There is also a low profile card of 9600gt and one of them is a low power too, it has basically the same kick as the full size except it only consumes 60w, but that's only if you are low on power supply.
And it also depends whether you have PCI-E and what's your processor and what your power supply is and another thing is how much you willing to spend :p

How did you determine that the video card was the culprit?

I did some research and asked a few friends about the problem. I connected a new monitor to the tower and the same result came out. I read on the forums about monitor distortion and it said that the video card could be the problem. Why, do you think it could be something else?

Yes. It could be the driver.
How long has this been happening?
Have you tried doing a system restore to before the problem started?

You may also want to power down...remove all power...and remove and re-seat the card...

You cant see anything? Can you see the Alienware logo at start up?

Try safe mode. Tap F8 while the computer is starting and choose safe mode.
