Help me! Issues with Printer not being recognised
« on: October 25, 2009, 10:46:47 AM »
Hi,
I recently bought an EPson SX200 printer to install on a computer running Windows XP. WHen it came to installation, I went by the book and followed every step. All fine, until it comes to actually connecting the printer to the computer. It then comes up with device not recognised. I followed all the troubleshooting tips, tried various USB cables etc, but still to no avail.

Took it back to shop, who suggested that it could be that the installation cd was for vista, whilst my computer was XP. SUggested downloading printer drivers from website.

I then spoke to an EPson technical person using their online chat, told them what they had said. He gave me the link for the drivers page, said try it but it's unlikely to work, he thought it was probably something to do with:
"You could try uninstalling and reinstalling from the following page however in my experience this is caused by missing system software that is require for a USB 2.0 MFP device like this"

I attempted the driver install but it still didn't work so I took the printer back, they didn't have another so I bought a more expensive printer SX515 I think, tried to install this one and again came up against the same problem.

Does any one know what I can do to fix this, I can't take the new printer back again and I really need a printer!!

Thanks in advance

You can try sfc /scannow in the run box...It will check your installation for any missing XP system files you might need for the printer....have a look at this link so you know what's happening.

Have your XP disk ready at hand.

Never argue with a stupid person, they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
