A problem that I don't see an answer for.

Hi.
I have lost my task bar and start button. I have done everything instructed by various posts and still don't have them back.
I have a Alienware 3.6 ghz, 4 MB ram, multi disks with loads of spaces available.
When I do the Windows key it brings me to my documents folder.
I have attached a HJ log to this email in hopes someone will be able to help without re-installing windows as I already tried that and now have 2 windows programs on my system. A mess, huh?

What happened just before you "lost" the taskbar? These things do not happen spontaneously.

Ctrl+Alt+Delete bring up your task manager>File>New Task>Explorer

Morning everyone.
Yes, I tried that. I used System Mechanic to clean my registry but once it did that I couldn't even get System Mechanic back to go back to the old registry version.
I ended up "fixing" windows (now I probably have 3 versions in there!) and I am up with my start and bar back.
I appreciate your insights and while I have your attention, I am posting another question in hardware - maybe I'll see you there?

I can't beleive no one thought of this simple one. Is it possible set to hidden? So that when mouse is not over it you don't see it?

I'm gonna guess EVERYONE thought of that.

otieatkins - you should NEVER use registry cleaners - for this very reason. Please don't use it in your new install
