installing old software error message

i keep getting error messages whren trying to install programs i ran on ME i think they are 16 bit.

C:/windows/system32/autoexec.nt the system file is not suitabel for running MS-DOS and windows applications. Close to terminate program.
What can i do to sort this out?

Minion, I had this problem once... Follow Raptor's link... it works... You will need your Windows XP CD by the way...

    Cutting through the jargon
    Copy the autoexec.nt from
    c:\windows\repair and paste it to c:\windows\system32
    Then set the attributes to 'read only'.
