How do I see an attachment that is a pps?
« on: November 13, 2009, 06:45:27 PM »
Hi -
A friend sent me an email that has pictures in an attachment.  It said it was pps.  How do I get the program to see these pictures?   Thanks    Bob

I used the address you gave me and I know I  have the program because it is in the list of programs when I click on "all programs".  Apparently I do not know how to use it.  The attachment I want to see is titrled "Fwd: Iraq....pps".  When I click on the attachment symbol a line comes up "no virus threat detected File:Iraq....pps.eml Download File".  When I click on Download File a panel comes up that askes "Do you want to open or save this file."  I click on open and a panel comes up which says among other things "Download to tempory file".  Then a panel comes up that is headed  "Iraq....pps  and one line on this panel says "Attach:  Iraq.pps (3.67 MB).
I hope  I have given enough infro.
I have an E Machine  32 bit  running Vista Home Basic.
I'm still learning.  Thanks for your help.   Bob

Bob, you should be able to open the file with a right click and then Open or Run.....if PP is installed it should open the file for you.

I am not too smart when it comes to computers.  Could you be a little more detailed about how to use pps.  You say to open the file with a right click.  What file am I supposed to right click on?   Bob

Instead of OPEN click on save and save it to a location of your choice (desktop is fine). Then double-click on the icon. If you have Power Point installed the presentation should run.

      Allan -
OK I am getting one step at a time.  I have  the Iraq....pps on my desk top.  Double click does nothing but right click brings up a panel that has "open" which I clicked on.  This brings up a panel "Iraq....pps"   The only thing on this panel that means anything to me is:  Attach: Iraq.pps   When I right click on this a pop up comes on with the following message:  This file does not have a program associated with it for preforming this action.  Create an association in the Set Association control panel.
I have no idea what the Set Association control panel is.  Please give me more guideance.  You are educating me.  Thanks    Bob

Let's start at the beginning. Do you have Microsoft Powerpoint installed?

Bobh, did you download and install the MS PowerPoint Viewer?

That is what Allan wanted you to do with the link that he posted.

      Hi -
Yes I have MS Office Power Point Viewer.  When I click on "start" and then "all programs"  the list that comes up lists" :
MS Office Power Point Viewer 2003
MS Office Power Point Viewer 2007
What is my next step?  Thanks   Bob

Open PowerPoint, click on FILE - OPEN - and navigate to the file you want to open.

      Allan -
I go to "all programs" and click on "MS Office Power Point 2007",  The panel that comes up has that name.  At the bottom are two lines:
           File name                                                        Open
File of type      Power Point Presentations           Cancel
      File name has 2 choices:
           c\Users\Bob\Documents\Iraq....pps
           c\Users\Bob\Documents\Iraq.pps
When I click on either and "open" I get the following message:
Power Point cannot find the file Iraq....pps
I know that is the file name because it is on my desk top with that name.
What next?   Maybe I need to give the file another name?    Thanks    Bob

I really can't follow your post so let's do things backwards. Right-click on the iraq.pps icon on your desktop. If there is an OPEN WITH option click on that. If not, click on OPEN. Either way you should be asked what program you want to open it with. Find Powerpoint and click on that.

      Allan -
Ok I went to Iraq....pps on my desk top and right licked on it.  A panel came up and I clicked on "open with".  This panel has a lot of programs listed but not MS Office Power Point.  I know the Power Point program is listed in "all programs".  Why it did not come up with the rest of the programs I do not know.   I think this problem has gone too far.  It has takem up too much of your time.  Maybe we should just forget the whole thing.   Thanks anyway.
