Screeen goes black etc
« on: June 19, 2005, 01:09:47 PM »
I recently upgraded my computer, motherboard, cpu, ram etc, so now my PC is this;

CPU - AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 2.0 GHz Socket 754, 512 KB cache, BOXED

RAM - TwinMOS PC3200 DDR-DIMM 512MB CL2.5 Memory 184-P

MOTHERBOARD - MSI K8T NEO-V, K8T800, Socket-754, ATX SATA Raid/ATA, LAN, DDR400, Sound, AGP8x

GRAPHICSCARD - ATI Radeon 9600 pro Atlantis

I also got two harddrives (60GB, 200GB) and a DVD plus a CD thing

The problem is, after like 10-20 minutes of using the computer, the screen blacks out and you can't do anything so you have to restart.
At first I thought it was the power supply that was too weak, so I upgraded from 260w to a new 400w power supply.
I got really frustrated when I realised it wasn't the power supply that was too weak, the problem is still there.
Anyone got any clues? I highly doubt it's virus since I just formated C:\

Thanks

I will assume this is based on actual proof.

Are all heatsinks properly attached and all fans operating?

What are you talking about jdd ?

And Raptor, it had the problem before I attatched the second harddrive with backups.

All heatsinks are properly attached and all fans are operating. System temprature is around 47 C so I don't think it's an overheating problem.

Did you do a fresh install of your OS when you did the upgrade?

260 Watt is certainly not enough for your system.

Have you attempted to reseat all expansion cards and other types of hardware?

Curious. This post seems to exist in two sections, yet, it is not created by the same person.

Yes but 400w should be okay right? I'm don't think I've reseated the expansion cards, I'm unsure on how to do this.
I'd be glad if you told me how to.

Also, I tried changing my graphicscard into something else. I switched my Radeon 9600 to a GeForce 2 mx and got suprised when the problem isn't there anymore.

However, the radeon card isn't that old and I don't see why it should be broken, it works in other computers aswell.

I posted that in the games section  ???
If I were you Tyler, I'd start a fresh thread with this and give it a different name.
There is a thread in the Games section that is a mirror to this one.

Put your good card back in, reboot in safe mode & remove the drivers. Reboot in normal mode & re-install the drivers for your good card.
Then update your drivers to the latest ones from the web.

If reseating the Radeon videocard does not yield positive results, test the videocard on another system. If it does not work, it may be malfunctioning.

          That diddn't solve it.  :/

The problem occurred ( screen went black ) even before I got the chance to install the Radeon drivers, and that was while no drivers were installed.

And by the way, the Radeon card is working exellent in another computer.
