My computer crashes with select games
« on: December 15, 2009, 06:39:53 PM »
Around 2003, my dad made me a custom-built gaming computer. It seemed to have a lot of bells and whistles, but as soon as I tried to run my copy of Sims 2, it crashed. The screen became distorted, the sound cuts, and the only way to remedy the dilemma was to restart the computer. Since then, I have bought a numerous amount of games, and it seems as if my computer picks which games it likes and dislikes. It will run Age of Empires III
* PC with 1.4 GHz equivalent or higher processor
* 256 MB of system RAM
* 2 GB available hard disk space
* 32x speed or faster CD-ROM drive
* 64 MB video card with support for hardware transformation and lighting required
* Sound card, speakers or headphones required for audio
* Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
* 56.6 Kbps or better modem for online play

As well as Oblivion,
* Windows XP 64-bit, Windows XP, Windows 2000
* 2 GHz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
* 512 MB System RAM
* 4.6 GB free hard disk space
* 128 MB Direct3D compatible video card and DirectX 9.0 compatible driver;
* 8x DVD-ROM drive
* DirectX 9.0c (included)
* DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card
* Keyboard, Mouse

but it will not run the Oblivion mod tools. It will not run Sims 2, it will not run some MMOs such as Perfect World

* Processor - Pentium 3 800 mhz
* Memory - 256 RAM
* Hard Disk Space - 2.5 GB
* Video Card - 64 MB Video Card

and it will not run Half Life 2
* Processor: 1.2 GHz Processor
* OS: Windows, 2000/XP/Me/98
* Graphic card: DirectX 7 level graphics card
* Hard Drive: 4.5 GB
* Memory: 256 MB RAM
* Other: Internet Connection, DVD-ROM Drive

If anyone has any suggestions, maybe more RAM, or a different video card, I would love some help. My operating system is Windows XP, and

Say again?

When was the last time, you cleaned inside the case?

Download, and install SpeedFan: http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php
Post your computer temperatures:

Provide processor info (hold Windows logo key, and hit Pause/Break key to find out).

I think they mean a Pentium 4 3.2GHz with 800MHz FSB socket 775 CPU? yeah?
Could also be a Celeron D. I Don't think they made C2D or Pentium D with that FSB. Maybe they did, I don't know :)
