    Pasted from Yahoo! Answers:

Started up half an hour ago, BBC iPlayer is "corrupt", Google chrome is also corrupt, MSN Messenger's "side-by-side configuration" is off, so it won't open...
Tried to do a system restore to the 14th, I get as far as choosing what drive to refresh and it's telling me there are errors and if I schedule a scan for the next time I turn on the laptop it will all be fine and dandy.
Done this twice, no scan, same problems.

This has never happened to me before on any of my computers, laptop is a Dell Inspiron and I've only owned it since September.

Also, nothing is downloading, they freeze straight away.

If anyone knows what's happening or has had this problem before, any advice on how you sorted it is veeery grateful, as this is doing my head in :)

First I would like to welcome you to Computer Hope.  It's unfortunate about the circumstances though.

I want you to go <a href"http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,46313.0.html">here[/url] and follow the directions EXACTLY.  The virus/malware specialists here are just phenomenal.

Thank you for replying so soon, but I've just started following the steps and what not and I can't download or update my expired virus program, downloading programs seems to be one of the things my laptop is refusing to do.

I really have no idea where to start now because most of the steps seem to involve downloading something or removing a program which, to my knowledge, isn't there. I just used Add/Remove to uninstall the last program I downloaded which was Divx web player on the 20th, but I can't see anything that might be suspicious or damaging.

You may need to download the software on another machine and burn it to a disk or flash drive.

Can a moderator move this to the Virus section?

Post a hijack this log in the malware forum. You may have to download hijack this on another system.

Just like to add, every so often a couple of bars of some kind of techno music play from nowhere on my laptop every couple of hours and until now I thought it was part of a pop-up or something and simply ignored it. Just googled it as it happened again when my browser wasn't open, and a few people have reported something like this as being some kind of virus.
Am I simply taking things too far now or is this really a known virus?
