Can old games make my video card go crazy?
    « on: November 23, 2009, 01:39:57 PM »
Hey! Here is my problem: when I play games like Starcraft, Earthsiege 2 (old gameS), the colors of my computer start to go crazy. For example, the water in starcraft has blue, red, purle, green and yellow lines over it. This happens when I play an old game for more than 30 min. And you dont even want to know what happens to the colors in starcraft in the menu where you choose which mission to play, everything is white, black and blue..(and maybe other colors) >:( . So why does this happens ??? Is it a problem with my video card? When I play a new game (Like WoW), everything in my computer stays normal. My video card is NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200. 128 MB memory :-X

What OS and service pack are you running?
    Evil is an exact science.

Are you using the latest driver for the video card? If not, download & install it and see if that helps.

I don't know what "applied" means. It sounds as though you did not actually INSTALL the new driver. You need to run the "setup.exe" file in the driver download. Did you do that and did the new driver install (it would have gone through a whole setup routine).

ahh ya good times.  4870 did this to me before.  Uninstall the drivers with driver sweeper, restart, then install the drivers by running the setup you downloaded

Applied = installed or something like that.

Thank you. This worked :) Now all I have to do is wait and see if the colors go crazy again.

ah ya, I remember that.  Being afraid to play a game or really do anything, without it doing that.  And the bsods, that was bad too.  Then I got windows 7.  Never been a problem since

Pf does it again, and if I minimize the game the colors on my desktop are also strange ;D , and when I maximize the game again the colors are fixed (for 5min).

Try setting your desktop color depth at 256 color as alot of those older games run at that color depth.

It's not only the color depth that affects the older games, in many cases the display resolution has to match as well.
