when I start up my desktop within a few seconds the monitor goes to a bright white and all i do is turn off the monitor and turn back on then all is well. occasionally i need to do that a couple of times. any ideas? remember i know very little. thanks in advance

I'd try a different display to see if the problem is with the display or the system.

That's something I've never heard before.  Please follow Allan's advice and report back.  I'd like to learn more about this.
