What is "blank page"?
« on: November 24, 2009, 05:38:00 AM »
Hi -
When I am posing a question or replying to an answer in Computer Hope I like to use "spell check" because I am a poor speller.  When I click on "spell check" at the bottom, I get a panel that is headed "Blank page - Windows Internet Explorer" .
I can not use "spell check".   What am I doing wrong?  Thanks   Bob

is the pop up blocker enabled for computer hope? if so then try turning it off and see if the issue continues.

I am not too smart.  I don't understand exactly what you want me to do.  I have pop up blocked for all pop ups as far as I know.  I still get the blank page.  Thanks for your reply.   Bob

When I did my previous post I clicked on "preview" and then "spell check" and spell check worked.  I wonder what "preview" has to do with "spell check".
    Any suggestions?   Bob

not sure that removes my theory. if it was an issue with the pop up blocker then it would not work if you click preview first.

it is still giving you the blank page if you do not click preview first?

During my previous post the spell check worked afterb I clicked on preview.  Now "spell check "  will not work no matter what I do.  When I click on "spell check"  I get the "Blank page".  I have no idea why it worked once and not again.  Seems like it is random.  Any suggestions?    Thanks  Bob

      Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.
Click on Start button to begin cleaning process.
TFC will close all running programs, and it may ask you to restart computer.

Your suggestion apparently worked.  My "spell check" now works.  Thanks so much for your help.  I have ran CCleaner but the Temp File Cleaner is better.  Would you suggest that I no longer use CCleaner and only use Temp File Cleaner?  Thanks   Bob

I'm glad, you got fixed :)

I prefer TFC over CCleaner. It's more thorough and it doesn't have tempting registry cleaner part.

Thanks for your reply.  You and others on Computer Hope have helped me a lot.    Bob
PS   When I tried to use "spell check" on this post I found I'm back to "Blank page - Windows Internet Explorer".  I give up.  It is not a big issue.  It only gives me trouble on this web site.  When I send an e-mail the spell check works fine.   Bob

Re-run TFC one more time and then....

      Start IE in Safe Mode.
Go Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools, and click on Internet Explorer (no add-ons). Same thing?

I followed your instructions and when I clicked on IE (no add-ons) I got the following message:  IE is currently running without add-ons.  I think I remember turning off add-ons because I did not know what add-ons were for.  Anyway the spell check seems to be working correctly...
      Thanks    Bob
PS  I checked when I nstarted this post and spell check was working.   After I wrote this and clicked on spell check the Blank Page came up. Wierd!!!!

Bob, were you still in IE no-ads mode, when spellcheck stopped working?

I am not certain but I guess I was.  If I have any choice I generally turn off things I don't know anything about or anything I don't use.   Bob

      Try again...
      Close IE.
Go Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools, and click on Internet Explorer (no add-ons).
Run it for a while in the above mode and see, if spellcheck will work.

OK I get the idea.  However I have to shut down for the night.  I will go over all your posts and try tomarrow.  Thanks   Bob
PS  I just checked spell check and it is working.   Will let you know if it continues to work.

Spell check is still working so I guess you fixed it.  Each month I run avast Antivirus, Super Antispyware, and TFC.  Today I will run all these and run a back up.  After that I will check on "spell check" and let you know if everything is OK.   Bob
PS   Spell check is not working now.  I will still run my security and get back to you.

It looks like some of IE add-ons was giving you problems.
I'm glad, things worked out :)

I have now ran my security programs and put a back up on a disc.  I checked spell check and as of now it worked.   Maybe you have cured my problem.  I thank you for all your time.  Bob

I'm back to "Blank Page".  After running all my security and running a back up I still get a blank page when I use spell check.  The header says that Internet Explorer is currently running with add-ons disabled.  However, I checked my internet options and it listed 20 add-ons that were enabled.  I have no idea what these add-ons do or if they could be deleted with harm. I have just clicked on "spell check" and it is working.  I have no idea why it works sometimes and not others.  This has gone far enough so let us just drop the problem.  I will live with it.  I thank you for all the time you spent on the problem,    Bob
      PS  it is still working!!!!!

In IE, go Tool>Internet Options>Advanced tab, click on Reset button.
      Restart computer.
