slave drive

is there anyway to boot off of the slave drive


because my master drive has a serous virus on it and i want to just wipe it and have the slave be the master but when i make the slave the master i get a disk read error press control alt del and it wont work so could anyone help me out

1.  Slave Drive.
     a.  How does slave drive interface to motherboard (IDE or SATA)?
     b.  If IDE, see:  Connecting IDE Hard Drives.

     c.  Is there an operating system already installed on the "slave" hard drive?
     d.  If yes, which one; e.g. Windows XP Professional SP3?
     e.  If yes, was it built for (installed to) the current computer system?
     f.  If yes, is its system partition on the slave drive (the partition containing system files needed to boot the operating system; e.g. NTLDR, NTDetect.com, Boot.ini?

2.  Resources.  What recovery and/or installation resources do you have:
     a.  Vendor supplied recovery/restore partition on bootable hard drive
     b.  Vendor supplied recovery/restore CDs (or user made)
     c.  OEM Windows XP Install CD
     d.  Retail Windows XP Install CD (full or upgrade)

3.  Alternate Boot Device(s).
     a.  Does system have an operational floppy disk drive?

The drive needs to be jumpered as master.
But because this install of XP was from another machine i doubt you will get it to boot properly...
