unwanted addverts jumping in despite blockers

Hi everybody,It's been sometime since I last posted anything on here but that doesn't mean I don't visit.The last time a very learned person by the name of Allan sorted out a slow shut down on my P.C. ( Thanks again for that Allan ).
Anyway I find myself here having to ask for some advice again from some more of you learned folks.
When I'm online even with the browser closed (but it's worse with it on) I get a continuous bombardment of adverts and it's a drag having to keep closing them all the time.Despite having all the blockers on in the anti virus program and all that stuff in defender e.t.c. they just keep coming.
Does anyone have any ideas on how this could have happened and more so how to put an end to it.
Any help would be most appreciated

I simply wanted to say thankyou very much for the advise Patio.
I followed the advise and I thought you might like to know the outcome.First I deleted a file in add/remove programs called CID help as most of the add's coming through were titeled CID then I downloaded the spyware program and ran it.

All is now well and you guys have once again helped me out.What a pleasure it is to be able to come to a site like this where people like you all are.Thankyou again very,very much Patio.
