SETUP FOR XP WILL NOT LOAD IDE BUS DRIVERS
    « on: December 14, 2009, 05:02:12 PM »
I am attemptintg to repair and\or install XP on my computer. The problem is that setup hangs up when loading the drivers for the IDE bus. I've tried other XP disks and utililities disk with the XP recovery console on them. They all for the most part hang up when attempting to load Intel IDE bus drivers. The hard drive is SATA, the controlers are on the motherboard, and the SATA technology is enab;led in CMOS. It is a Compaq computer and has an AMD Sempron processor I also have ran diagnostic tests on the computer's hardware including the CPU, drive memory etc. What gives?

      1.  Pick one and only one configuration to troubleshoot.  Can't fix a "moving" target.

      2.  Are you doing a "repair" install or a "new" install?  Windows XP doesn't transfer well from one computer to another.  It is meant to run on the system it was built for.

      3.  Which operating system and service pack level; e.g. Windows XP Professional SP3?

      4.  CMOS SATA settings in system BIOS.  What modes are available for SATA and which ones have you set in CMOS?

      5.  IDE Channels.  What if anything do you have connected to the IDE ports on the motherboard?
