Internet Explorer not working for some sites

Basic information:

I have Internet Explorer 8
I have a Windows Vista Computer
I delete files that I no longer need or want to keep (so that my computer runs faster)
I've disabled my Windows Sidebar
I have Google Toolbar, and Google is my homepage
I have Trend Micro Internet Security, HijackThis, Windows Defender
I think my Internet is provided by Verizon
I have a Sony VAIO laptop
I have a few other issues with my computer

Problem description:

So what's happening is my internet is nice and (thank goodness) speedy, working like a charm. And then, I click on a link and - BOOM!  I get this "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". What IS this? And the address bar says: res://C:\Windows\system32\shdoclc.dll/navcancl.htm
I don't know what to do...I've installed HijackThis and ran a scan a few seconds ago, here's the log:
