Starting a little used program ...
    « on: December 20, 2009, 09:16:16 AM »
..... that has been disabled in the start-up menu to reduce start-up time.

If I disable programs from loading during start-up how or where do I find them when I need to use them? or once disabled is that 'it'  ???

Go to the folder in which the program installed and find the .exe file. You can then right-drag, drop, and create shortcut on the desktop or in the Start menu. Or you can just double-click on the .exe file if you prefer.

Ah Just re-read my question, sorry but I have got it wrong what I meant to ask was  "How do I disable little used applications in the start menu to reduce start-up time, then find them again to use when required"

Only two things gained by hurrying "Bust fingers and b**t**d baby's"

Sorry about that and as you have no doubt gathered I am a non-techy type :(

Download and run Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel. Uncheck any items you don't want starting with the system. You can always re-enable them in the future if you like. And my post above tells you where to find the programs.

You can manage startup programs with ccleaner. Instructions here on how to get it working.

        Which ones, for example?

Applications in the start menu have no effect on startup time.

Have you looked at settings in the Preferences of the various programs?  For example, I have Yahoo Messenger installed but don't use it often. Be default, it will start when the computer is started.  But, that can be changed, i.e. to not start when the computer is started, in the settings in Yahoo Messenger.
