Running a tower desktop to HD TV
    « on: January 02, 2010, 09:51:57 AM »
Currently thinking of buying the Acer Aspire Predator G7700 Sniper IV configuration to run via a HD TV due to absolute terrible website design and such lack of information. Also misinterpretating and misunderstanding information from various sources Amazon, Play.com and also sources advertised on google shop stating the different configurations that Acer are producing. I have found a reliable stockist UK, I do have to order the desktop but that's no biggy, I would prefer buy from Comet than an online stockist that I have never heard of.

I am wanting to run it via a 30-40" LCD/LED TV, not sure on the model. And I'm not sure on the exact ports the Predator has but I have e-mailed acer to find out if they have HDMI or DVI on the desktop. If one of these is available, can I use the TV as my monitor for the PC to do all my computer related activities? (music, basic gaming, basic office work, dowmloading, net browsing and movies from different sources - downloaded, non hd dvds and blu-ray dvds).

Here is the link to it via comet, they say no HDMI port but also on other sites there is mention of HDMI being on the computer, I cannot imagine a Acer having different inputs/case capabilities on the different configurations as I have come across about 6/7 for each model of predator, the blu G7200 and the orange g7700:

Any help is much appreciated right now, very frustrated. I will shed as much as light on the situation as possible answering everyones questions to try and solve my annoying dillemma. Kind regards Josh

joshuashaw, have not examined your exact hardware that you mention. However the short answer to the question "  can I use the TV as my monitor for the PC to do all my computer related activities? (music, basic gaming, basic office work, downloading, net browsing and movies from different sources - downloaded, non hd DVDs and blu-ray " is yes. Depending on what output/input ports are available on the computer/HD TV units  that will determine what you need to have at opposite ends of the connection cable. I am using a 36 in. HDMI television  connected to a Dell XPS and can do all the things that you mention should i desire to. truenorth

To drive a HD TV set one of the most important things to look for would be a HDMI output on the video card.  There are plenty on the market, but it's just not a standard item yet for off the shelf PCs.

If Acer can't add or upgrade one for you I would look elsewhere.

Other than that it looks like a good machine.
