How to find out the exact type of memory for my notebook
    « on: January 20, 2010, 08:47:27 AM »
    Good evening all,

I have a notebook which was purchased 2.5 years ago.
    The brand-name is TwinHead.
Some of its configuration of computer hardware include
    Sempron CPU, 512MB (SO-DIMM), 80GB HDD.

    ====Here is what's happened to my notebook====

I was doing my school assignment last night, and
I was running MS Word, Adobe illustrator, Photoshop and Dreaweaver at the same time.
When I tried to save a word document, my notebook turned off.
It all happened out of a sudden.

I tried to press the "Power" button to turn on the notebook,
but the system didn't boot up. I couldn't see anything appear on screen either.
I could just see the "Wireless signal" turn on when I pressed the wireless connection short-cut button.

Is it possible that the problem is caused by damaged or burnt-out RAM?
If yes, then how to find out the exact type of memory for my notebook.
I have checked out that my notebook is running SO-DIMM-typed  memory,
but I am not sure whether it is DDR or DDR2,
PC-3200, PC-4200 or other memory modules of higher clock speeds.

    Could you help me please?

    Thanks a lot.

    Kitty.

    Clik Here...

This is Crucial's online scanner...it will tell you exactly what RAM that system takes...you don't have to buy from them but it's a very useful tool.

      Thank you, patio.

Normally when I press the Power button on the notebook, the HDD signal light should have turned on.
But now the HDD signal light does not turn on since the problem happened last night.
So I cant access the Internet.

No I can't see anything appear on screen, not to mention the windows.

Could it be caused by damaged memory, patio?

No, I didn't open the other part of the notebook case to find out the brand name of the HDD.
I had just opened the small piece of notebook case which covers the memory, and found out
it is SO-DIMM memory. yet I am not sure whether it is DDR or DDR2 typed.

Is it better to purchase a new memory to check out whether the problem is caused by
damaged RAM or HDD first, ratio?

or what would you do first if you encountered this problem, ratio?

I'd check the HDD 1st...the absence of the activity light leads me to this...
