Internet Connection
« on: January 21, 2010, 11:35:40 PM »
Thank God for this site, you guys are the best!

I have Dell Vostro 1510.

Problem is, I cannot connect to an unsecured router. Each time I try and connect, I get a window that says, This network is marked as "hidden" network and is either not in the range of this computer or the wireless settings saved on this computer do not match the settings of this network.

notes:
*When i t went to an internet cafe, it easily detected the wifi signal and had no problem connecting. Its only like like this with my own router which is unsecured.

 *The OS is Windows Vista

*It detects wireless signal of my router easily but does not connect.

*The computer icon has an X mark instead of signal strength.

I'll really appreciate all the help I can get, thanks.

If this is your router that you're trying to connect to, then you should be able to go to the router's setup page and change the "Hidden" status. Or you might have the option to allow the laptop to connect.

    Just to clarify.

Just because a connection does not have a security protocol does not mean it's a free for all for people to join and exploit.
