    AntiVirus Plus etc
    « on: January 26, 2010, 09:58:07 AM »
    Hi

Well basically my computer has ended up with this antivirus plus spyware thing. It seems to have disabled mostly everything on my computer. I can't access the internet to download or install programs to help me get rid of it and i also can't access my task manager, which i have tried a couple of methods to fix which also failed.
Any time I try and use the internet or access my task manager the following error occurs:

WARNING Application cannot be executed. The file is infected. Please activate your antivirus software.

Any suggestions on how to remove it without having to download programs etc?

    Thanks, Alan

first thing u do is boot to samemode. most likely F8 right after u see the logo of ur computer when first turning it on. it should boot to safe mode.
here the internet might or might not work depending on the infection.
      >if it works download malwarebytes from filehippo.com, install and run updates first. run full scan. second step is to go to eset.com/onlinescan and run the online scan. NOTE Eset Online scan will install easier with Internet Explorer.

      <Removed>

i would reccomend running ccleaner to clean any temp folders at the end. link here

        Try restarting the computer again.

If it still logs off try starting in Safe Mode.

        Let me know...

Tried restarting several more times and just did the same.

Tried starting in safe mode and it stops on a back screen and the bottom line reads:

          multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)?WINDOWS?System32?Drivers?Mup.sys

it just stays on this screen

im sorry but i work at a computer shop and this is what i have been dealing with day in and day out.
the login in and login out is caused by the infection. it is actually gone now but it has done its damaged.

here is where i found a solution for it. i have done it over thirty times myself so i know it works

It's impossible to know what is causing this without seeing logs.

Boot loops are caused by many, many more things then just virus.

true, but because he was able to log in before and while he was infected. it really points to the infection. i have done this to much times to be wrong.

I understand what you are saying but we do things the safe way here. It's not our computer. The damage is done so let's be as safe as possible and not make it worse by throwing out fixes we are not 100% sure of.

                  Not many options here.

                  Create a bootable CD

Download this ISO file to the Desktop and burn it to a CD as an ISO.

To burn the file, install the free version of DeepBurner Free

Place a blank CD in your computer.

Start DeepBurner and select Burn ISO Image then click Next (you may need to maximize the DeepBurner window)

Under the window where it says Image file you have to select the rc.iso file you just downloaded. (click the little button to the right)

Once the file is selected click Burn ISO

With the ISO CD you just burned in the CD drive restart the computer.
Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD drive if you are prompted.
When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER

Type: chkdsk /r and press Enter (note the space between the chkdsk and /r)

To exit the Recovery Console and restart the computer, type exit at the command prompt, and then press ENTER

Put the burned disk in the other computer.

When starting you will need to tap F12 to get to the boot menu and choose to boot from the disk.

How many Windows installs is it showing ? ?
Have you tried using the up/down arrow to highlight the selection and hit Enter ? ?

Sounds like you have a 2nd install of Windows from your repair efforts...

That is a generic article and isn't going to help here. Besides. What they are asking to be done is THE SAME as what we are trying! Only here there is an open dialog here....

                                @ Alan Rfc1

Can you answer the questions Patio asked please. I'm really thinking you are looking at a reinstall.

How many Windows installs is it showing ? ?
Have you tried using the up/down arrow to highlight the selection and hit Enter ? ?

Sounds like you have a 2nd install of Windows from your repair efforts...

There are details missing from this tale here...
If you made the Recovery Console CD as EvilFantasy asked above it shouldn't be giving a repair option...that's not what it does.
What CD are you booting to and what steps have you taken so far ? ?

What CD are you booting to and what steps have you taken so far ? ?

Im booting the cd evilfantasy told me to make.

first of all when i start up the comp it says "press any key to boot from cd"
so i do that and thern it gives me the option:

To setup a windows xp now, press enter.

To repair a windows xp installation using recovery console, press r

So i press R and then it asks me which windows installation i would like to log into (theres only one option) so i do that then it asks what the admin pass is so i type that in, then in the next line i type the code in that evil fantasy gave me and after that it starts to recover or whatever. Thats what stage im on at the moment.

And mario21lv thanks for offering advice but that article cant help me as i dont have the windows xp installation disc anyway.
