Clean xp install on dell without dell install disc
    « on: February 02, 2010, 06:50:31 AM »
I plan to do a clean xp pro install on a dell desktop, but I don't have the original installation discs. My plan was to use a copy of xp pro (I have the dell product key) and try installing it that way. My question is will that work? The copy of xp I have is not a dell oem version. Also, I will download the dell drivers from their site onto a disc. Or, I have a another dell pc running xp home and I do have that install disc. Can I install from it? Thank you for your input.

I'd stick with the MS XP Pro CD...some Dell CD's will only install to the specific line of machines they were made for...
The Drivers will need to be done manually but it sounds like you have a handle on that...

Just think of all the bloatware you won't have to deal with... ;D
